Glowing Skin – Top Tips for Summer

Glowing Skin – Top Tips for Summer

As summer approaches and temperatures rise, it’s time to trade in the turtlenecks for tank tops and enjoy the sunshine. After a long, cold winter, we’re all ready to show a little more skin—BBQ and beach season is finally here.

Before you banish your sweaters in favour of sundresses; it might be worth giving your skin a little bit of extra attention. Summer is a whole different ball game when it comes to the complexion: hydration and protection.

Here are our top tips to help you get summer ready and have glowing skin all season long.

Winter dry skin, be gone! In order to brighten your complexion and ensure your skin can effectively absorb moisture; it’s important to exfoliate. Exfoliation removes the dead cells sitting on the surface of the skin that contribute to a dry, dull appearance. Choose an exfoliating scrub and gently massage your skin in circular motions. If you have especially sensitive or dry skin, simply use a washcloth and warm water to avoid irritation.

TIP: Do this once or twice a week in summer to prevent blocked pores caused by all that extra suncream.

Quench your skin’s thirst with a good body moisturiser. Summer skin needs a bit of extra help to maintain hydration especially in dry climates where temperatures are high. Make sure to choose a quality moisturiser that both draws in moisture from the air and seals the hydration in the skin.

Apply after showering when the skin is still damp for maximum effectiveness.

Bonus: moisturising could help your tan last longer.

Shave and bathe, wisely

Make sure to protect your skin from irritation by ensuring your razor blades are sharp and changed regularly—dull blades = razor-burn. Also, limit the length of your showers to prevent drying out the skin and opt for lukewarm or cool water, rather than hot.

Always protect from the sun

Though a glowing golden tan may seem like the epitome of beautiful summer skin, make sure to take precautions to guard against the sun. Not only is sunburnt skin unsightly, dangerous and painful—sun damage is cumulative. Always wear sun cream when outdoors and consider wearing a hat and sunglasses for added protection.

Eat and drink well

Look after your skin from the inside out. One of the best things you can do for your skin is to maintain proper hydration and eat a nutrient rich diet.

Aim to drink at least 6 glasses of water a day to ensure your skin has enough water to function properly. Also consider incorporating more fruits, vegetables and healthy fats into your diet to provide a nourishing boost. Not only will your skin look amazing—you will feel great as well.

Even if the winter months did a number on your skin, these tips should help you get summer ready in no time at all. By incorporating these simple suggestions into your routine, you should have healthy, glowing skin all summer long.
